The Smith Museum of Stained Glass in Chicago is the only museum in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to stained glass. The permanent collection of secular and religous windows were donated by the Smith famiy. It is housed at Navy Pier. The Museum’s Mission is to “become a world-class museum that collects, preserves, exhibits and interprets stained glass windows.”

1. “An Angel Between Two Saints”, 1886.  This memorial window was dedicated to Summer Ellis and was from a Chicago Episcopal or Presbyterian church with an image of Saint Paul and an archangel.  Memorial windows were dedicated to a deceased family member.

2. The “Baccanalia” 1900 was designed by Raffaello Armenise. The Art Noveau window shows a vibrant image of a young follower of Bacchus. If you follow my posts, you know he’s one of my favorites! This window decorated a wine bar at the Palazzo Duomo in Milan, Italy.

3. The Chicago Bulls Emblem, 1997 was designed and fabricated by Khaim Pinkhasik. Legendary Bulls Player Michael Jordan also earned a place in the museum designed and fabricated by Seymour Adelman in 1997.

4. Charles Comiskey founded the Chicago White Sox and dedicated The Comiskey Memorial Window to his wife Nanette.

5. “Ecce Homo” (Behold the Man“) 1937 was designed and painted by Max Guler while he was employed at Drehobl Bros. Art Glass Company in Chicago. “Behold the Man” were the words uttered by Pilate as he described Jesus crowned with thorns and bound with ropes.

6. Fairy Tale of the “Snowgirl” 1994 is based on a Russian Fairy Tale. The colorful window depicts Father Winter in full white beard with a Christmas Tree and Daughter Snow holding a Lantern.
