If you want to see the finest city in America, go to San Diego. If you want to visit a magnificent urban park and cultural complex, head to Balboa Park in San Diego.
If you want a great Happy Hour in Balboa Park, stop at the Prado Restaurant. In the Prado Lounge from 8-10 pm on Tuedays-Thurdays and 8-11 pm Friday and Saturday you can listen to live music five nights a week. To view the Happy Hour Menu, click here. To view the Tapas Menu, click here.
Many of the the museums along Balboa Park’s Prado are housed in fabulous Spanish Revival buildings that were originally built for the 1915-1916 Panama-California Exposition. The California Quadrangle, California Tower and the California Building were designed by Berttran Goodhue.
I love the orchids in the Botanical Gardens in Balboa Park. The Timken Museum of Art is always free. The other museums are free on specified Tuesdays for San Diego Residents.
For example, on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, the following Museums are free:
San Diego Art Institute, San Diego Museum of Art, San Diego Museum of Man and the Japanese Friendship Garden. On the 4th Tuesday, the Air and Space Museum and the Automotive Muuseum are free.
At the incredible Museum of Art, make plans to attend the “Summer Break 2013 Festival: Double Portraits”.
Here are the details from the website:
“Soak up contemporary art, culture, and performances at the Museum. Summer Break, the Museum’s new contemporary art festival, features 10 continuous days of art, music, lectures, films, readings, workshops, and performances inspired by Arnold Newman: Masterclass.
