If you can’t go to Carnevale di Viareggio for Valentine’s Day, spend the day at Eataly in Chicago.
There are over 6000 square feet of space for you to explore at Eataly in Chicago. Start your Valentine’s journey at La Piazza for a glass of wine. Every Wednesday evening at 5:00 they pop a bottle of amazing Italian wine. Ernest Hemingway would love this event!
I loved the Il Borro “Alessandro Del Borro” 2010 Syrah from Toscana. Order some antipasti or pizza. If you find a wine that you like, the Eataly Wine Shop has over 10,000 bottles of wine from all 20 regions of Italy.
For Valentine’s Day they are offering a special event at Eataly. If you bring your Valentine to Amore between February 10th and 14th, you can get Italian Wine and Unlimited Desserts for $38 per couple. Get your tickets today at https://www.eataly.com/us_en/valentine-s-day
There is also a Wine Wanderlust special in February with 10% off Brunello di Montalcino.
Head over to the Salumi and Formaggi department where you will find over 400 cheeses. My favorite is the Fontina Val D’Aosta DOP Alpeggio Guffanti. This cow’s milk cheese from Val d’Aosta is amazing. They have been making this cheese in this region of the Italian Alps from Valdostana cows since the 12th century. This rich and buttery cheese retails for $29.80 per pound and is well worth every penny. The single-farm Alpeggio version is made exclusively with the summer milk of Valdostana cows grazing on Alpine pastures. In Italy, cheese from this region is popular in fondue and au gratin recipes.
Before you leave Eataly, have some gelato or pastries. Sign up for Eataly events on line: https://www.eataly.com/us_en/classes-and-events/chicago
Happy Valentine’s Day!! Don’t forget to bring home some Amarone and Brunello di Montalcino.
