If you follow my posts, you know that I love Italy. I am also a big fan of Little Italy in San Diego. Little Italy is a trendy and charming section of downtown San Diego California and a great place for a “Vino con Vista.” Little Italy has plenty of outstanding dining options, excellent gelato and coffee shops and interesting retail options on Kettner and India Streets. Every Saturday the Little Italy Mercato is a combination farmers’ market and street fair. There’s an annual Taste of Little Italy in June and a Summer Film Festival at West Date and State Street on Saturday evenings. Little Italy has plenty of interesting festivals. One of my personal favorites is FESTA! in October

Get ready for Little Italy’s 3rd annual Ferrafosto. This Roaring 20’s fundraiser on Columbia Street will transform the neighborhood into a Roaring 20’s Speakeasy with plenty of food, entertainment and dancing. This fundraiser will provide scholarships and support local school programs.

WHEN: Saturday, August 17, 2013 from 6:00 pm to midnight

WHERE: Columbia Street in Little Italy, San Diego

This is usually a great way to celebrate Ferragosto  in San Diego!

Little Italy is close to the Embarcadero, the Gaslamp Quarter and the Marina District. The landmark sign on India Street, the main commercial corridor was dedicated at the 7th annual “Festa” on October 8, 2000. This neighborhood was settled by Italian immigrants in the 1920’s when they came to America to work in the Tuna Industry.

In Little Italy you can play bocci ball at Amici Park at the corner of State and Date streets. Visit the Firehouse Museum on 1st and B Street. Relax at Piazza Basilone with a fountain and memorial to fallen soldiers.

I love strolling down India street and reading all the banners. There were posters that represent the famous Italian-American actors and their Academy Award winning performances. Al Pacino won Best Actor for” Scent of a Woman.” These posters have been replace recently.

The neighborhood is loaded with upscale residential condos, Italian food stores and chic Italian restaurants.
