Rome’s 2011 International Film Festival in Italy

The 6th Annual International Rome Film Festival will be held between October 27th thru November 4. The festival includes international movie premiers, a film competition and restored versions of older films.

The event will take place at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome‘s Parioli District.  The multi-purpose complex was designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano and opened in 2002. There will be screenings in the theaters and a Cinema Village will be constructed in Rome.

The sixth edition of the Festival will pay homage to the Italian director Mario Camerini, on the 30th anniversary of his death . A restored version of his 1929 silent movie “Rotaie” (Rails) will be shown.

American Gigolo” and “Pretty Woman‘s” handsome leading man, Richard Gere will be recognized with an honorary award. Gere has had a prestigious career and has worked with notable directors like Robert Altman, Akira Kurosawa and Sidney Lumet. He is also highly respected for his humanitarian work.  The festival will screen a restored version of “Days of Heaven.” This movie was directed by Terrence Malick in 1978 and featured a youthful Richard Gere.
