The culinary event has been celebrated every September for over 590 years! This festival is located in the heart of Palatinate which is Germany’s second largest wine growing region. The Wurstmarkt is the world’s biggest wine festival; it started as a fair for local farmers and wine growers and now attracts now more than 600,000 visitors annually. Wurstmarkt has the world’s largest wine barrel. The barrel can hold 44 million gallons of wine. It has been converted into a multi-level wine shop.
Visitors can enjoy the local food of Palatinate, live concerts, literature contests in the regional dialect, rides and fireworks. Over 150 local wines will be poured during the Wurstmarkt; from fine Rieslings to refreshing ice wines. Sip your Wein in large festival tents at long community wooden tables or at a traditional “Schubkärchler”, a small wine stand.
