Explore the gorgeous wine route in Constantia and visit centuries-old estates like Groot Constantia (Great Constantia) that was established in 1684 by the Dutch Colonial Governor of Cape Town, Simon van der Stel. Durbanville Wine Valley Harvest Festival 2012 in South Africa

 

Durbanville is in the Western Cape province of South Africa and forms part of the greater City of Cape Town metropolitan area. Durbanville is surrounded by farms producing wine and wheat. The Durbanville wine route is about 20 km north of Cape Town. There are about wine estates on the beautiful, rolling Tygerberg hills, producing a wide variety of wines. The Durbanville Wine Valley celebrates the annual “‘Feast of the Grape” on March 21, 2012.

The Durbanville Feast of the Grape is hosted on twelve wine farms. The day is filled with grape-stomping, wine, food, live music and hay rides in the vineyards.

Grape Harvest Festival 2012 in Curico Chile: Fiesta de la Vendimia

The 2012 Festival of the Wine Harvest will take place on March 23, 24 and 25 in Plaza de Armas in Curicó. The famous Fiesta de la Vendimia is one of the oldest of the country. Curico is located in the Maule Region in Chile‘s central valley. The city has a vibrant wine culture with La Ruta del Vino (The Wine Route) in the Curicó Valley.

Miguel Torres Maczassek, the CEO of the Miguel Torres vineyard, started the Harvest Festival 26 years ago and it has become an exciting event for wine enthusiasts and a boon to Curicó’s tourism industry. It is held on the Plaza de Armasis, the main Square in Curico with beautiful palm trees, exotic plants and fountains. There is a monument to Lautaro carved on the trunk of a beech tree by Heraclio “Kako” Calquín from Vichuquén. You will also find the mayor‘s house (alcaldía) and the governor’s house near the Plaza de Armas. Some of the other interesting sites include: the Alameda Antonio Manso de Velasco avenue and Condell hill with a panoramic view of the city and the San Francisco church.

March 23  (18:00 to 24:00 in Plaza de Armas):Wine exhibition 2012 with wine pairing, food, crafts and a Harvest show. There will be a Presentation of the Harvest Queen

 March 24 (10:00 to 24:00 in Plaza de Armas): Traditional Harvest Ceremony 2012 Blessing of the First Wort, Weighing of the queen, Announcing of the Harvest and Grape Stepping Contest. Folklore Show in time of Harvest Harvest show 2012 International Artistic Show

March 25 (11:00 to 18:00 in Plaza de Armas): Wine exhibition 2012 and Solemn Harvest Mass 2012 with Traditional Harvest Games and a Folklore Show.

The wineries of the Curicó valley will be offering wine tastings including: AltaCima, Aresti, Correa Albano, Echeverría, Las Pitras, Mario Edwards, Miguel Torres, Millamán, San Pedro, Valdivieso and Viñedos Puertas.

Visit the oldest building in the city, La Iglesia San Francisco (San Francisco’s Church). It was built in 1734 and was moved to its current location in 1759.The city’s hero is Luis Cruz Martínez, a Chilean soldier from the War of the Pacific, who died in 1882 in Perú.
