The Old Town neighborhood of Chicago is one of the most charming and historic neighborhoods in Chicago. Here’s my Vino con Vista Video of the Fall Festival 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awxq573tISM
The Old Town Triangle Historic District is located around North Avenue and Wells Street. It is packed with turn-of -the-century and Victorian era architecture. It is the home of restaurants and bars like Benchmark, Topo Gigio, O’Brien’s, The Fireplace Inn and Kamehachi. The Fudge Pot has outstanding chocolates and taffy apples.
The neighborhood is also home to the famed The Second City improvisational comedy troupe that spawned Saturday Night Live. The Second City originated in Chicago‘s Old Town neighborhood. Second City became a source of cast members for Saturday Night Live. Alumni include John Belushi, John Candy, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Gilda Radner.
Many of the streets and alleys pre-date the Great Chicago Fire. My first residence, when I graduated from college, was in this neighborhood. It’s still my favorite part of the city. The neighborhood is home to St. Michael’s Church, where I was married. It was originally a Bavarian church and fortunately, this gorgeous church is one of seven churches in the city that survived the Chicago Fire. The Old Town Triangle Historic District is in the National Register of Historic Places.
