The ninth annual BB&T Charleston Wine + Food Festival  in the historic city of Charleston, established in 1670.

The city  was named for the King of England and was known as Charles Town.

The Food and WIne Festival will have a variety of  events in historic places like:

the Old City Jail and the William Aiken House. The Gov. William Aiken House, also known as the Aiken-Rhett House, or the Robinson-Aiken House was built in 1820 and is located at 48 Elizabeth Street.

At the Culinary Village,  attendees can experience the grand tasting tent and celebrity demo kitchen.

“Since 2006, the festival has donated more than $325,000 to area charities and scholarship programs. This year’s culinary community partner is GrowFood Carolina, the state’s first non-profit local food hub. Based in Charleston, the program connects area farmers with local retailers and restaurants.”

While you’re in this charming Colonial town, visit the waterfront park called The Battery.

Take a chartered ferry to Fort Sumter where the first shots of the Civil War were fired when Confederate soldiers attempted to take this Federal stronghold in April 1861.
