The Trinita dei Monti Church in Rome was initially established by King Charles VIII of France. He was grateful to St. Francis of Paola for assisting his dying father, Louis XI.

In admiration of the monk’s holiness, he had a small convent and church built on Pincian Hill. The church was dedicated to the Most Holy Trinity.
During the Sack of Rome (1527), the church was still unfinished. It was finally completed in 1584, when the twin bell towers with octagonal cupolas, by Antonio Ruspoli were constructed. The double flight of stairs was constructed by Domenico Fontana.

The church overlooks the Piazza de Spagna. The facade is by Carlo Moderno. Pilasters divide the church into three bays. I love the view of the domes of Rome from the top of the Spanish Steps. This “Scalinata” is the widest staircase in Europe.

The altar has a painting of the “Sacred Heart of Jesus.” The Sacred Heart is one of the most famous religious devotions to Jesus’ physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity.
